Registration Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency has developed a Under-Five Birth Registration Strategy. The initiaitve aims at increasing significantly the proportion of under-five children with birth certificates as well as set out an efficient and effective regitration system in Tanzania Mainland. This Initiative is setting out the new/decentralized registration system. Meaning the registration function will shift from the central government to local government. Implementation will be carried out by building on existing health and local government systems. Specifically, this will involve strengthening the use of both the mother and child health (MCH) and local government systems for registration and certification as a one step and unified process.According to the Initiative, hand-written birth certificates will be issued at all MCH facilities and Ward Executive Officer offices free of charge for all under-five children. Should a parent need a computer generated certificate, this will be available at the District Executive Director (DED) office at a fee.
Currently the initiative has been launched in Mbeya region and rollout of the initiative will be carried out in all the Councils in Mbeya region. The initiatives will roll out to other districts in Tanzania Mainland later on.
